The "Ancient Woodhammer Piano" is an Instrument Sample Library for Native Instruments' Kontakt 5. The history of this instruments sound goes back to the 18. century when Cembalo, Clavichord and Pianoforte were common.
This recorded example gives you the feeling of a piano that hits the strings made of brass with wooden hammers. The brass-strings were attached to a wooden frame which could not withstand much pressure. That is why the string-tension was not as high as todays pianos (build with steel-strings and metal frames) and opening the window could ruin all the tuning-work.
